Escape. Embrace. Or Not. Or Both.

I follow a number of interesting blogs, among them that of TK Coleman, a self-described philosopher whose blog tagline reads: “Ideas are my intoxication. Philosophy is my psychedelic.”

In a recent post, titled “Escape,” Coleman discusses the nature of “personality:” what it is, how  it’s formed, how we and others experience our own.

He begins by sharing the “conventional wisdom,” that we:

“can’t escape the reality of who we are by changing the location of our physical environment,”

10 Cool Lists of 10 Cool Things to Love

PINK heart 10It’s no secret that, besides this soon-to-be-amazing personal blog, I also run an already amazing (she writes none-too-modestly) website not surprisingly called AmazingWomenRock.com, which has, over the last five years, become my own fabulously random work of multimedia performance art as well as an online oasis of inspiration for women and men who love women (she shares even more modestly).

(Phew! Shorter sentences please Susan.)

ANYWAY, just for fun it (and because I don’t have the time or inclination right now to pen, or more accurately to type, something deep and meaningful, and also there may soon be enough deep and meaningful shit on this blog for us all to wade through or drown in, in which case, bring wine please, or not, in which case, again, bring wine; in fact, bring wine in any and all cases: a case of it should do nicely), I thought this list of 10 Cool Lists of 10 Cool Things to Love, drawn from the pages of AmazingWomenRock.com, would, you know, tide us over for the moment, before the flood, the onslaught, the TSUNAMI of blog posts I may, just MAY, one day get a round to writing/typing, which reminds me, the next one will be about that very thing – getting around to it. Or at least that’s the plan. At the moment. Until it changes. (<= Sentences like this one are good. Ones like the first one, not so much.)

Stay tuned.

Life breaks my heart.
Life breaks my heart.
There it is land-sliding
Down my lover’s shoulders
When we discover his dog:
Dead in the backyard.

Life dissolves my heart.
Life dissolves my heart.
There it is flowing in the river
Of my mother’s tears
Because she can’t go home:
Yet. Continue reading

Morning glory

Apple blossom

I adore walking early on spring mornings. The air is fresh and crisp. The world is full of promise. Anything and everything seems possible. It’s gorgeous and glorious.

Last year, when I cared for my mom in her rural home, I treasured getting up at dawn in spring and summer for a bit of alone time.

I would sneak out of the house while Mom was still asleep (and before Caroline arrived to share the care-giving responsibilities), and take pictures of the beauty I found around me. Continue reading

10 Notes in an Ode to Joy

A beautiful accident

A beautiful accident

According to a happiness test I once took, I score highly on the “happiness scale.”

But I don’t often feel happiness. Rather, I frequently feel joy, which for me is a different and deeper emotion, and which can be evoked by the simplest everyday things.

There are countless notes in my continuing ode to joy; here are 10 of them: Continue reading
