I see amazing women. What do YOU see?

Here’s a short (about three-minutes) video I put together for the What I See project with the help of (in order of appearance): Carolyn Theriault, Daniela Lambert, Georgia Lewis, Judith Carter, Jesta Phoenix, Judy Matte-Thompson, Maria K. Lawton, Kathleen Musso, Kim Noce, Laura Littlefield Bush, Mary Murphy, Sunny Jones, Kate Burke, Molly Bainbridge, Robin Adair, Sue Rosen, Padi Mayhew, May Tartoussy, Lynne Andersen, Noora Nasrallah, and my Mom Pinkie Patti.

I also submitted another which touches my heart in a special way. It’s of me and my Mom Pinkie Patti; it’s called “I See You and Me. And Love.” Continue reading

You Are the Wind Beneath My Wings

CrackerJacks thank you“DITTO!” was all it took to bring tears to me eyes.

You wouldn’t think one word at the end of a tweet from someone you don’t “know,” retweeted by someone else you don’t “know,” would make you cry. But it did.

Actually, to be honest, it was the combination of the tweet, the “DITTO!”, and the tune to which the tweet linked that made me cry.

See me?

See me?

I’m writing.

I’m writing a play. A book. A blog post. A dozen blog posts. Articles and particles, bits and pieces, nuts and bolts.

A lifetime. I’m writing a lifetime.

I’m writing a lifetime in which the main character is invisible. Unseen. Unheard. Unnoticed. She barely exists in her own story. Or so it would seem. At times. Continue reading

Frozen Bananas? Who Knew? (Day 10)

Frozen bananas

Frozen bananas

Yippee! We made it to Day 10 in Susan’s Last 10 Days in May Magic Bullet Muffin & Fat Back Buster UnDiet & Weight Release Thing)! (Actually, today is Day 11, but don’t tell anyone…)

It is excruciatingly hot in my corner of Quebec, or at least it is by Canadian standards : 31 C is OTT for us Canucks. Doesn’t hold a candle to Erbil, Iraq, though. That’s where my friend (and author) Carolyn Theriault is. She’s a sucker for punishment is Carolyn. Continue reading

Hot? Getchya Some Gazpacho (Day 9)

FB thumbs up iconIn the last 10 days, we’ve had rain, rain, SNOW, freezing cold, and everything in between.

But now that Facebook has turned around (in this statement), so has the weather.

Today (or rather yesterday, because I fell asleep at the keyboard when I was about to post this last night, and then decided to go to bed instead) was hot, hot, hot, and tomorrow is supposed to be sweltering, by Canadian standards anyway (and yes, it’s tomorrow already and it’s a humid scorcher). Facebook, food & feminism (Days 5, 6, 7 & 8)

Margaret Mead small groupThis week’s three “F” words!

Yes, I have continued on Susan’s Last 10 Days in May Magic Bullet Muffin & Fat Back Buster UnDiet & Weight Release Thing, even while I was madly blogging against big bad corporate Facebook and its misogynist treatment of women — fighting  the good feminist fight as it were.

I wrote five posts which so far have a combined viewership of 6,000+ (2,700 on one day alone in the heat of the battle!). Not bad for my little upstart blog. Now things will return to normal (i.e. quiet) of course. Anyway, here are the five posts; #3 is my personal fave: Continue reading

Yes, @Facebook, it IS graphic violence (Trigger warning)

Domestic abuseOne of the issues central to the campaign to have violently misogynist and completely inappropriate content removed from Facebook is the question of what constitutes:

  • hate speech or symbol
  • graphic violence
  • nudity or pornography

Four paragraphs below this one is a screenshot. At the top of the  screenshot is a “poster” of a woman who appears to have been shot in the head and is either bleeding to death or has already bled to death. The caption says: “I like her for her brains.”
